Pharmacology Job Opportunities

TENURE/TENURE TRACK POSITION
(Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor)
The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a tenure/tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative, competitive research program supported by extramural funding and to participate in teaching undergraduate, graduate and professional courses. Applicants using molecular, biochemical, cellular or integrative approaches to study problems relevant to pharmacological sciences are encouraged to apply. Requirements for the Assistant Professor position include a Ph.D. in Pharmacology or other basic biomedical science, and/or an M.D. degree, and at least 3 years of relevant postdoctoral research experience. Applicants must have a strong record of research accomplishments, as documented by publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. Associate Professor or Professor applicants must have professional distinction in published research, teaching and evidence of consistent extramural funding for research. For additional information on our department, visit our Website at: www.pharmacology.med.umn.edu.
Interested applicants should apply online at https://employment.umn.edu for either requisition 153317 (Assistant Professor or 153318 (Assoc. Prof. or Prof.), and attach a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, brief statement of research interests, and names of three references.

Molecular Biologists and Biochemists
Research Associate, Research Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Associate positions are available in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Minnesota. We are using multi-disciplinary approaches, including transgenic, biochemical, molecular, cellular, imaging and biophysical methods to address a wide range of biological and pharmacological questions related to opioid receptors as well as hormone nuclear receptors and their coregulators in gene regulation. We are focused on the regulatory mechanisms that control the expression of opioid receptors and other neuronal genes, signaling pathways of opioid receptors, and the mechanism of action of nuclear receptors and their coregulators in gene transcription. A Ph.D. and evidence indicating research success is required. Previous training in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or biophysics is preferred. For research and department details, see the following University of Minnesota websites: http://www.pharmacology.med.umn.edu and http://mcbda.ahc.umn.edu.
Interested applicants should email a curriculum vitae, statement of research interests and names of three references to Dr. Horace H. Loh, Head, Department of Pharmacology, University of Minnesota at amayhew@umn.edu.

Research Associate and Postdoctoral Positions for molecular and proteomic studies of nuclear receptors and translation regulators for adipocytes and neurons.
We focus on regulatory mechanisms in stem cell proliferation, adipocyte differentiation and neuronal protein expression, triggered by nutrients, hormones and neuronal activity. We investigate factors regulating chromatin remodeling, RNA transport and translation. Various molecular, cellular and proteomic approaches are used. For our recent publications, see Nat Stru & Mol Biol 14: 68-75 (2007); Nat Chem Biol 3: 161-5 (2007); PNAS. 104, 13810 (2007), EMBO J 26, 1522-31 (2007); Mol. Cell 19, 643-53 (2005).
A Ph.D. in biological sciences or biophysics is required.
Interested applicants should send curriculum vitae via Email to Dr. Li-Na Wei, Department of Pharmacology, University of Minnesota Medical School, at weixx009@umn.edu. For research details see web site http://www.pharmacology.med.umn.edu/staffwei.html.

Postdoctoral Associate
An NIH funded postdoctoral position is available to study molecular and cellular mechanisms of mammalian signal transduction. We are looking for an energetic colleague with keen interest in science and solid background in the areas of either biochemistry, genetics, neuroscience or molecular/cellular biology. The main research emphasis is expected to be on fundamental mechanisms that govern synthesis, degradation and activity regulation of macromolecular signaling complexes of RGS proteins - key regulators of vision and behavior implicated in a range of neurological diseases. The laboratory employs a variety of multidisciplinary approaches spanning from enzyme kinetics and protein-protein interactions to imaging of protein trafficking, mass-spectrometry assisted proteomics as well as development and characterization of knockout/transgenic mouse models. Broad research area offers an abundant opportunity for the choice of research project matching candidate’s expertise and interests. The PI is committed to career development of the trainees. For details visit the website of the laboratory at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~marte105/ .
To apply please send CV to Dr. Kirill Martemyanov at martemyanov@umn.edu. Both experienced scientists and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. The salary and appointment level will commensurate with experience.

Postdoctoral positions in neuropharmacology. My laboratory studies cellular mechanisms and behavioral consequences of synaptic inhibition evoked by neurotransmitters and drugs of abuse. At present, multidisciplinary approaches including techniques in slice electrophysiology, mouse genetics, behavioral pharmacology, and proteomics are being directed at understanding the contribution of G protein-gated K+ channels to the synaptic inhibitory effects associated with GABAB receptor signaling.
