Pharmacology is the study of how drugs exert their effects on living systems. Drugs can be defined as 'small molecules' that interact with specific target molecules, thereby producing a biological effect.
Faculty members in the 'Drug Discovery and Development' group are particularly interested in discovering novel drug candidates, identifying new drug targets, and determining drug mechanisms.
We study a wide variety of drugs, including pain control medications; therapeutic agents to treat neurological diseases, hypertension, and heart failure; anticancer drugs; and anti_infectious agents against parasite, HIV, and bacterial infections.
We are
involved in every step, from the development of new screening methods to clinical trials, of drug discovery and drug development.
These studies will lead to the development of novel therapeutic agents.
